Light
- Bright indirect light is essential to maintain variegation.
- Avoid harsh direct afternoon sun — it can scorch the lighter sections.
- Too little light causes:
- fading variegation
- leggy growth
- smaller leaves
An east-facing window or a few feet back from a south/west window works well.
Water
- Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil feel dry.
- Keep soil lightly moist but never soggy.
- Variegated micans are more prone to root rot if overwatered.
A chunky aroid mix helps:
- potting soil
- orchid bark
- perlite/pumice
- optional coco chips
Humidity & Temperature
This plant prefers tropical conditions:
- Humidity: 60%+ ideally
- Temperature: 18–29°C (65–85°F)
Low humidity can cause crispy edges or stuck unfurling leaves.
Fertilizer
- Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength.
- Reduce feeding in winter.
Growth Habit
It can:
- trail from a hanging pot
- climb a moss pole for larger leaves
Climbing usually encourages bigger, more dramatic foliage.
