This beautiful Thai Constellation is a good addition to rare plant lovers out there.
🌿 Light Requirements
Monstera Thai Constellation thrives in bright, indirect light. Due to its variegated leaves, which contain less chlorophyll, it requires more light than its all-green counterparts. Place it near an east-facing window or a few feet away from a south- or west-facing window with sheer curtains to filter the light. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves.
💧 Watering
This plant is sensitive to overwatering, which can lead to root rot. Allow the top half to three-quarters of the soil to dry out before watering again. Use a moisture meter or check the soil manually to ensure it's not too wet. When you do water, do so thoroughly, allowing excess water to drain out.
🌡️ Temperature & Humidity
Monstera Thai Constellation prefers temperatures between 65°F to 85°F (18°C to 29°C). In Dubai, indoor temperatures typically fall within this range. However, the plant also appreciates higher humidity levels. Consider using a humidifier, placing a pebble tray with water beneath the plant, or grouping it with other plants to increase humidity.
🪴 Soil & Potting
A well-draining, chunky soil mix is ideal. You can create a suitable mix by combining indoor potting soil with coco chips, orchid bark, and perlite. This ensures good aeration and prevents water from accumulating around the roots.
🌱 Fertilization
During the growing season (spring and summer), feed your Monstera Thai Constellation once a month with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength. Avoid over-fertilizing, as this can harm the plant. Refrain from fertilizing during the fall and winter months when the plant's growth slows down .
✂️ Pruning & Repotting
Prune any yellow or damaged leaves to encourage healthy growth. Repotting is typically needed every few years or when the plant outgrows its pot. Choose a pot that's 2-4 inches larger in diameter than the current one and ensure it has drainage holes.
⚠️ Common Issues
-
Brown or Crispy Leaves: Often a result of low humidity or too much direct sunlight.
-
Yellowing Leaves: Can indicate overwatering or poor drainage.
-
Loss of Variegation: Insufficient light can cause the plant to produce more green leaves.
