Hoya Waymaniae

Dhs. 185.00

Hoya waymaniae is a striking and rare species of Hoya native to Sumatra, Indonesia. It’s best known for its large, thick, heavily textured leaves that can develop deep veins and rich colors under bright light. Like many Hoyas, it also produces beautiful, fragrant flowers — often orangey-yellow or peach — but the foliage alone is a showstopper.

Here’s a full care guide for Hoya waymaniae:

🌿 Hoya waymaniae Care Guide

☀️ LIGHT

  • Bright, indirect light is best.

  • Can handle some gentle morning sun; avoid harsh afternoon rays which can scorch leaves.

  • More light = deeper leaf color and more texture. Some leaves may blush red or burgundy under strong light (a healthy stress response).

💡 Low light = leggy growth, dull leaves, and less chance of flowering.

💧 WATERING

  • Let the top 1–2 inches (2–5 cm) of soil dry out between waterings.

  • Water thoroughly, then allow excess to drain.

  • Water less frequently in cooler months.

💧 Thick, succulent-like leaves store water, so this Hoya is drought-tolerant — but don’t let it dry out completely for long periods.

🌱 SOIL

  • Needs a light, airy, and very well-draining mix, such as:

    • 1 part orchid bark

    • 1 part perlite or pumice

    • 1 part peat, coco coir, or chunky potting mix

    • Optional: add horticultural charcoal or worm castings

🥄 Compact, soggy soil is a no-go — leads to root rot fast.

🌡️ TEMPERATURE & HUMIDITY

  • Temperature: 65–85°F (18–29°C)

  • Humidity: 50–70% or higher is preferred.

    • Will tolerate average indoor humidity, but higher humidity = bigger, better leaves and better growth.

🌬️ Avoid cold drafts and sudden temp drops — tropical species don't like chills.

🌸 FLOWERS

  • Hoya waymaniae blooms clusters of star-shaped flowers in warm tones: yellow, peach, or orange, sometimes with a reddish corona.

  • Fragrant, sometimes described as sweet or fruity.

  • Blooms from old peduncles, so don’t remove the flower spurs after blooming!

🌼 Needs mature growth + consistent care to bloom — often takes 1–2 years from cutting.

🧪 FERTILIZER

  • Fertilize every 4–6 weeks during the growing season (spring to fall).

  • Use a balanced liquid fertilizer (e.g., 20-20-20) or bloom-boosting one (e.g., 10-30-20).

  • Reduce or skip feeding in winter.

🪴 REPOTTING

  • Hoyas like being a bit root-bound, so repot every 2–3 years, or when roots circle the bottom.

  • Best repotted in spring or early summer.

  • Always use a pot with good drainage.
