Light & Placement

• Outdoors, this drought-tolerant tree thrives in full sun to bright light, but should be shielded during the peak afternoon heat of the UAE summers to avoid leaf burn 

• Indoors, place it near a south- or west-facing window for bright, indirect light. Early morning sun is okay, but avoid harsh direct rays 

🌡 Temperature & Humidity

• Preferred temperature: 20°C to 30°C (68–86°F); it tolerates some heat but needs protection if temps exceed 45 °C

• Indoors, optimal temperature is around 18–24 °C (65–75 °F) 

• Humidity between 40–60% helps prevent browning or curling leaves—use a pebble tray, occasional misting, or a humidifier if needed 

Water & Soil

• Use a well-draining soil mix—think cactus or succulent soil, or a blend of peat, perlite, sand, or gravel 

• Water sparingly—let the topsoil dry between sessions to avoid root rot. Outdoors, water more during summer but reduce frequency in winter 

• In the UAE summer, outdoor specimens may benefit from daily or every-other-day watering (only when soil starts drying at the top) 

Fertilizer & Maintenance

• Feed sparingly during the growing season:

  • Every 6–8 weeks with a balanced, slow-release formula 

  • Or every 2 weeks with liquid fertilizer during active growth (spring/fall), especially when outdoors 

• Prune minimally; just remove dead or yellow leaves. If indoors, trimming the top can help maintain a manageable height and encourage fuller growth 

• Repot every 2–3 years, choosing a pot slightly larger and ensuring good drainage

• Dracaena draco is slow-growing—expect ~10 years to reach 1.2 m; mature branching and flowering may take 10–15 years 

• It’s drought-tolerant, great for arid regions like the UAE
