Alocasia Mandalay

Alocasia ‘Mandalay’ care is similar to other Alocasias, but it especially likes warmth, humidity, and bright filtered light.

Light

• Bright indirect light is best
• Avoid harsh afternoon sun or the leaves may curl/burn
• Morning sun is usually okay indoors

Water

• Keep soil lightly moist, not soggy
• Water when the top 2–3 cm feels dry
• Do not let it fully dry out for long periods
• Reduce watering slightly in winter

Humidity

• Loves high humidity (60%+ ideal)
• Crispy or curling edges usually mean air is too dry
• A humidifier or pebble tray helps a lot

Temperature

• Best between 20–30°C
• Protect from AC drafts and cold rooms
  

Soil

Use a chunky, airy mix:

• potting soil
• perlite
• orchid bark
• coco chips

Good drainage is very important because Alocasias are prone to root rot.

Fertilizer

• Feed every 2–4 weeks during active growth
• Use diluted balanced fertilizer
• Stop or reduce feeding in winter

Common Issues

• Yellow leaves → usually overwatering
• Drooping leaves → underwatering or cold
• Curling leaves → low humidity or inconsistent watering
• Small leaves → needs more light/humidity

Your plant looks like it would appreciate:

• a bit more humidity
• brighter indirect light
• a slightly chunkier soil mix if growth is slow
