Light
-
Bright light to full sun is ideal. A south or west-facing window is perfect.
-
Indoors, provide at least 4–6 hours of direct sunlight or supplement with a grow light.
Watering
-
Water moderately during active growth (typically fall to spring).
-
Let the soil dry out between waterings to prevent rot.
-
In summer dormancy, reduce watering or stop altogether if the leaves die back.
Soil
-
Use a well-draining mix—a cactus or succulent mix is ideal.
-
You can add extra perlite or pumice to improve drainage.
Temperature
-
Prefers temperatures between 15–24°C.
-
Protect from frost—below 40°F (4°C) can cause damage.
Humidity
-
Average household humidity is fine. No special needs here.
Fertilizing
-
Feed monthly during the growing season with a diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer (e.g., 10-10-10 or similar).
-
Do not fertilize during dormancy.
Dormancy
-
After flowering (usually in late spring), it may go dormant.
-
Leaves may yellow or die back—this is normal.
-
Reduce watering and let it rest until new growth appears.
Flowering
-
Produces yellow, sweetly-scented flowers in spring.
-
Flowering can sometimes cause the leaf tips to brown—normal and harmless.
Potting
-
Repot every 2–3 years or when it outgrows its pot.
-
Choose a shallow pot with good drainage.
