Here’s a complete care guide for Hoya wibergiae, a beautiful and rare Hoya species from the Philippines, known for its thick, waxy, slightly speckled leaves and clusters of sweet-scented star-shaped flowers. It’s often confused with Hoya verticillata, and in some taxonomies, it’s considered a variety of it.

🌿 Hoya Wibergiae Care Guide

☀️ LIGHT

  • Bright, indirect light is ideal.

  • It can handle some morning or late afternoon sun, but avoid harsh midday rays.

  • Too little light can lead to leggy growth and reduced chances of flowering.

💡 Tip: In high light, the silvery speckles may show pink or purplish hues — a healthy stress response.

💧 WATERING

  • Let the top 1–2 inches (2–5 cm) of the soil dry out between waterings.

  • Water less in winter or when growth slows.

  • Avoid letting the plant sit in water — Hoyas hate soggy roots.

🔁 Routine: Water thoroughly, then let it drain fully. Don't water again until the soil is dry to the touch.

🌱 SOIL

  • Prefers an airy, well-draining mix. Use:

    • 1 part potting mix or coco coir

    • 1 part orchid bark

    • 1 part perlite or pumice

    • Optional: charcoal or LECA for added aeration

🌡️ TEMPERATURE & HUMIDITY

  • Temperature: 65–85°F (18–29°C)

  • Humidity: Moderate to high (50–70%+)

    • Can tolerate average indoor humidity but thrives in higher levels, especially when flowering.

💨 Avoid: Cold drafts, heaters, or AC blowing directly on the plant.

🌸 BLOOMING

  • Produces beautiful clusters of creamy-yellow star-shaped flowers with a red or yellow center.

  • Flowers are fragrant and appear from peduncles (flower spurs)do not remove them after blooming!

  • Needs bright light, steady temps, and good care to bloom, often after 1–2 years of maturity.

🧪 FERTILIZER

  • Fertilize every 4–6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer).

  • Use a balanced liquid fertilizer (e.g., 20-20-20) or a bloom booster with higher phosphorus (e.g., 10-30-20).

  • Skip or reduce feeding in fall and winter.

🪴 REPOTTING

  • Repot every 2–3 years or when rootbound.

  • Hoyas like to be a little snug in their pots, which can actually encourage blooming.

  • Use pots with excellent drainage.

🌱 PROPAGATION

  • Propagate by stem cuttings with at least one node and one or two leaves.

  • Root in:

    • Water

    • Sphagnum moss

    • Perlite

    • Soil mix

  • Keep warm and humid until roots develop.
