Alocasia Sulawesi Green Carpet

Dhs. 220.00

Alocasia sulawesi ‘Green Carpet’ (also sometimes referred to as Tandukra. It’s care is similar to many aroids, but it has some sensitivities, so attention to detail will help it thrive.

Light

  • Provide bright, indirect light. Avoid direct midday sun, which can scorch the leaves. (They naturally grow under forest canopies, so filtered light is ideal.)

  • An east- or west-facing window (with a sheer curtain) is a good spot. If light is low, you can supplement with a grow light.

Soil & Potting Mix

  • Use a well-draining, airy mix for best results. Aroid mixes work well. You can mix potting soil with orchid bark, perlite, coco coir, or pine bark to improve drainage and aeration.

  • The mix should retain moisture but not stay soggy (i.e. don’t let it become waterlogged).

  • Make sure the pot has good drainage holes to allow excess water to escape.

Watering

  • Water when the top portion of the soil is dry. Many guides suggest watering once the top ~2–3 cm (or top 25–50 %) is dry.

  • Water thoroughly so that it drains through the pot, but avoid letting the plant sit in standing water.

  • In winter or during a dormant period, reduce watering (but don’t allow the soil to dry out completely).

  • If your tap water is high in salts, chlorine, or other minerals, consider using filtered, distilled, or rainwater. Some Alocasias are sensitive to water quality.

Temperature & Humidity

  • Keep in a warm environment, ideally between about 18 °C to 27 °C (65–80 °F).

  • High humidity is beneficial — aim for 60 % or more humidity if possible.

  • You can increase humidity by:
     - Using a humidifier
     - Placing a pebble tray with water under (but not touching) the pot
     - Grouping plants together
     - Occasional misting (though this is a supplementary measure
