Tradescantia Nanouk

Dhs. 125.00

This Tradescantia is a sought after variety. The shimmery beautiful patterns of green, pink, and white is total eye candy. Who needs flowers when you have gorgeous leaves! This plant is a fast grower and will begin to trail as it grows, making it a stunning addition to a shelf or hanging pot.

Light Requirements

  • Bright, indirect light is ideal for maintaining vibrant pink, purple, and green variegation
  • Can tolerate some direct morning sun, but avoid harsh afternoon sun (especially important in Dubai's intense climate)
  • Lower light will cause colors to fade and growth to slow
  • Place near east or north-facing windows for best results

Watering

  • Water when the top 2-3 cm of soil feels dry
  • Prefers consistently moist (not soggy) soil during growing season
  • In Dubai's climate: typically every 5-7 days in summer, less in winter
  • Reduce watering in cooler months
  • Ensure good drainage to prevent root rot

Humidity

  • Thrives in moderate to high humidity (40-60%)
  • Dubai's air conditioning can dry the air—consider grouping plants together or using a pebble tray
  • Misting occasionally can help, but good airflow prevents fungal issues

Temperature

  • Ideal range: 15-27°C

Soil

  • Well-draining potting mix
  • Mix regular potting soil with perlite or orchid bark for better drainage
  • Slightly acidic to neutral pH

Fertilizing

  • Feed monthly during spring and summer with diluted liquid fertilizer
  • Reduce or stop feeding in fall and winter
  • Use balanced houseplant fertilizer at half strength

Pruning & Maintenance

  • Pinch back stems regularly to encourage bushier growth
  • Remove any brown or damaged leaves
  • Tradescantia can become leggy—trim back to maintain compact shape
  • Cuttings root easily in water for propagation!

Common Issues

  • Fading colors: Not enough light
  • Leggy growth: Insufficient light or needs pruning
  • Brown leaf tips: Low humidity or inconsistent watering
  • Yellowing leaves: Overwatering

Pet Safety

⚠️ Mildly toxic to cats and dogs if ingested—may cause mild irritation. Not recommended for pet-friendly collections.
