Size: 20cm in 12cm nursery pot

Alocasia ‘Lukiwan’, a hybrid prized for its elegant, metallic green leaves and compact growth:

Light

  • Best: Bright, indirect light.

  • Avoid: Direct sunlight (can scorch the leaves) and low light (slows growth).

Watering

  • Frequency: Water when the top 2–3 inches of soil are dry.

  • Tip: Use room-temperature, filtered water if possible.

  • Important: Avoid overwatering—Alocasias are prone to root rot.

Humidity

  • Ideal: 60–80% humidity.

  • Tips to boost humidity:

    • Use a humidifier.

    • Place on a pebble tray.

    • Group with other tropical plants.

Temperature

  • Range: (18–27°C)

Soil

  • Type: Well-draining aroid mix.

  • DIY mix: 40% potting soil + 30% perlite + 30% orchid bark or coco chips.

Fertilizer

  • Frequency: Every 4–6 weeks during spring/summer.

  • Type: Balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength

Dormancy

  • Alocasia ‘Lukiwan’ may shed leaves and go semi-dormant in cooler months—this is normal.

  • Reduce watering and do not fertilize during this time.

Repotting

  • Every 1–2 years or when rootbound.

  • Choose a pot 1–2 inches wider than the current one.

Pests to Watch

  • Spider mites, mealybugs, and aphids.

  • Wipe leaves regularly and inspect new growth.

Toxicity

  • Toxic to pets and humans if ingested; keep out of reach of children and animals
