Yucca plants are hardy, low-maintenance, and perfect for both indoor and outdoor settings. There are many varieties (e.g. Yucca elephantipes for indoors, Yucca filamentosa or Yucca gloriosa for outdoors), but their care is generally similar.
🌿 Yucca Plant Care Guide
☀️ Light
-
Indoors: Prefers bright, indirect light. Can tolerate direct sun (even a few hours daily).
-
Outdoors: Thrives in full sun. Tolerates partial shade, but best growth happens with plenty of sunlight.
💧 Watering
-
Water sparingly — allow the top 5–8 cm (2–3 inches) of soil to dry out between waterings.
-
In winter, reduce watering further.
-
Avoid soggy soil — root rot is the biggest threat.
🌡️ Temperature
-
Ideal range: 18–27°C (65–80°F).
💦 Humidity
-
Dry air is fine — no need for misting.
-
Great for dry indoor environments.
🌱 Soil
-
Needs well-draining soil — cactus/succulent mix or a mix of potting soil + sand/perlite.
-
Avoid heavy, clay-based soils.
🍽️ Feeding
-
Fertilize during growing season (spring/summer) every 2–3 months with a balanced, diluted fertilizer.
✂️ Pruning
-
Remove dead or damaged leaves by cutting close to the base.
-
You can also cut the top (called "beheading") if it gets too tall — a new rosette will grow.
🪴 Potting & Repotting
-
Repot every 2–3 years or when root-bound.
-
Use a sturdy pot with good drainage holes.
