🌿 Philodendron Florida Ghost Care Guide
(The plant with hauntingly beautiful pale leaves!)
The Philodendron Florida Ghost is a rare climbing philodendron known for its ghostly white new leaves that slowly mature to mint green, then deep green. Its dramatic, multi-lobed leaves combined with the changing colors make it a collector’s favorite.
✅ Care Requirements
☀️ Light
-
Bright, indirect light is ideal to maintain the “ghost” effect (white leaves).
-
Too much direct sun → leaf burn.
-
Low light → fewer white leaves; more green growth.
💧 Watering
-
Water when the top 2–3 cm (1 inch) of soil feels dry.
-
Likes slightly moist soil but hates soggy roots.
-
Overwatering causes yellow leaves and root rot.
💦 Humidity
-
Prefers 60–80% humidity, but adapts to 50%+.
-
Higher humidity encourages faster growth and prevents crispy edges.
🌡️ Temperature
-
Thrives at 18–27°C (65–80°F).
-
Protect from cold drafts; no lower than 15°C (59°F).
🌱 Soil Mix
-
Needs a chunky, well-draining aroid mix.
-
Suggested mix:
-
40% orchid bark
-
20% perlite
-
20% sphagnum moss or coco chips
-
10% charcoal
-
10% high-quality potting mix or coco coir
-
🌸 Fertilizer
-
Feed every 4–6 weeks in spring and summer.
-
Use a balanced (20-20-20) or aroid-specific liquid fertilizer, diluted to half strength
🔁 Repotting
-
Every 1–2 years or when roots are circling the pot.
-
Choose a pot with drainage holes.
🪴 Climbing Support
-
Likes to climb! Provide a moss pole, coco pole, or trellis for larger leaves and faster growth.
