The Ficus elastica 'Shivereana' Variegata, also known as the Variegated Rubber Plant, is a stunning cultivar of the Ficus elastica species known for its large, glossy, variegated leaves.

Care Tips

Light: Provide bright, indirect light for your Ficus elastica 'Shivereana' Variegata. It can tolerate some direct sunlight, especially morning sun, but avoid harsh afternoon sun to prevent leaf burn. Variegated varieties often require slightly more light to maintain their variegation.

Watering: Allow the top inch or two of soil to dry out between waterings. Water thoroughly, but ensure that excess water drains away from the pot to prevent root rot. Reduce watering during the colder months.

Humidity: Ficus elastica 'Shivereana' Variegata prefers moderate to high humidity levels. You can increase humidity by misting the leaves regularly, using a humidity tray, or placing a humidifier near the plant. However, it can tolerate average indoor humidity levels as well.

Temperature: Maintain temperatures between 65°F to 80°F (18°C to 27°C) for optimal growth.

Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix rich in organic matter. A mixture of peat moss, perlite, and/or orchid bark works well. Repot the plant every few years or when it outgrows its current pot.

Fertilization: Feed your Ficus elastica 'Shivereana' Variegata with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half strength every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Avoid fertilizing during the winter months when growth slows down.

Pruning: Prune your Ficus elastica 'Shivereana' Variegata to maintain its shape and remove any leggy or yellowing stems or leaves. Wipe the leaves with a damp cloth to keep them clean and free of dust.

Support: Provide a sturdy stake or moss pole if the plant begins to lean or if you want to encourage upright growth.

Propagation: Ficus elastica 'Shivereana' Variegata can be propagated from stem cuttings. Simply cut a healthy stem below a node and place it in moist soil or water until roots develop.

Pests and diseases: Watch out for common houseplant pests such as spider mites, aphids, and mealybugs. Treat any infestations promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil. Ensure good air circulation around the plant to prevent fungal diseases.
