Rhaphidophora Tenuis Silver

Dhs. 145.00

Size: 25, comes in nursery pot

Rhaphidophora tenuis ‘Silver’ is a rare and highly sought-after tropical aroid, known for its striking, elongated silver-green leaves. Like many Rhaphidophora species, it’s a climber and appreciates a supportive environment. Here's how to care for it:

🌞 Light

  • Bright, indirect light is ideal.

  • Can tolerate some lower light, but growth slows and variegation may fade.

  • Avoid direct sunlight—it can scorch the delicate silver foliage.

💧 Watering

  • Water when the top 2–3 inches of soil are dry.

  • Keep soil evenly moist but never soggy.

  • Reduce watering in cooler months.

  • Signs of underwatering: drooping or curling leaves.

  • Signs of overwatering: yellowing leaves, mushy stems, root rot.

🌡️ Temperature & Humidity

  • Ideal temp: 65–85°F (18–29°C).

  • Humidity: Prefers 60%+. Will tolerate lower but thrives with a humidifier or regular misting.

🌱 Soil

  • Use a chunky, well-draining mix:

    • Orchid bark

    • Perlite

    • Peat moss or coco coir

    • A bit of charcoal or worm castings for nutrients

  • Avoid dense or soggy soil.

🧱 Support

  • This is a climbing plant—it will grow best with a moss pole, trellis, or plank.

  • Climbing helps it mature and produce larger, more fenestrated leaves over time.

🌿 Fertilizer

  • Use a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer.

  • Reduce or pause during the colder months

  • Too much fertilizer can cause leaf burn.

🪴 Repotting

  • Repot every 1–2 years, or when roots outgrow the pot.

  • Choose a pot 1–2 inches larger in diameter.

  • Always use fresh, airy mix when repotting.

✂️ Pruning & Propagation

  • Prune to shape or control growth.

  • Propagates easily via stem cuttings:

    1. Cut below a node.

    2. Root in water, sphagnum moss, or directly in soil.

    3. Keep warm and humid until rooted.

🐛 Pests & Problems

  • Watch for spider mites, thrips, mealybugs, or scale.

  • Wipe leaves regularly and inspect undersides.

  • Neem oil or insecticidal soap can help.

🧪 Toxicity

  • Toxic to pets and humans if ingested (contains calcium oxalate crystals).

  • Keep out of reach of curious pets or children.
